Blood Simple
I don’t watch movies at home very often. I’d like to say that I’m the kind of person who watches lots of cool flicks, but the truth is that I’ve done significant damage to my attention span, and it’s just really hard to sit still for two hours.
So, I’m trying to watch more movies. On Friday we watched “Jackie Brown” (an underrated film by my favorite director) and “Brick” (it’s been at the top of my pile-of-shame for a while).
Last night we settled on a theme: Leah and I are gonna watch our way through the Coen brothers filmography. We’ve seen a handful of them, but we’ve missed a lot on the way.
We started with their debut, “Blood Simple”.

I loved it from the first frame. I was surprised at how much it reminded me of “Evil Dead” (Joel Coen was Assistant Director to Sam Raimi) and “No Country for Old Men”, specifically the climax. It’s impressive that this 26 year-old movie holds up so well. If you haven’t seen it, put it on your list!
