Barton Fink

I‘m blogging my way through the Coen brothers’ filmography. This is part 3.
Barton Fink surprised me. I enjoyed watching the film (it’s funny, the cast is great, and I was always interested in what would happen next), but I’m not sure what the Coen brothers were trying to say. After reading a bit, it seems that there are a lot of references that I just didn’t understand (I’m not really up on my socialist playwrights). Even so, I think the story works even without subtext. I’m happy I saw it, and I’m looking forward to re-watching it.
(We were supposed to watch “Miller’s Crossing” instead, but it’s no longer available on Netflix streaming. We’ll have to catch up on that one later.)
